MOVING ON IN MATURITY

“Therefore…let us go on to maturity” (Hebrews 6:1)

We began the year challenging Pole Creek to be a “Church on the Move.”  I understood that according to Scripture we could not move up, unless we raised the bar on leadership.   So, we turned to the Good Book and went through Nehemiah, learning what godly leadership looks like, and were challenged to MOVE UP IN MINISTRY.

Now, it is time to MOVE ON IN MATURITY.   While we need to develop our leaders, we must then disciple our laity!  The writer of Hebrews has this as a major theme of his New Testament epistle.   With that in mind, the rest of the year will propel us forward in growth.  No matter the level of spirituality we currently occupy, we can make progress—and it’s time for that to happen!

One of the keys to this is not only getting into the Word, but getting the Word into us.  This is our daily bread—and as our bodies must have physical food to develop, the Body of Christ must be nourished with the manna of God’s message.  We don’t just look at it, or even merely taste it; we consume it and digest it!

Here’s the promise:

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”  (Joshua 1:8)

The Jews were moving on into the Promised Land and God told them that moving on would require meditating on the Word.

Each month of our study, we will focus on memorizing a key text from Hebrews.  Here is the first one for the youth and adults to work on in June:

“God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds” . (Hebrews 1:1-2)

There is an abbreviated passage which the children will be memorizing:  “God…has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.”

As you memorize these verses, ask yourself, “What does this mean?  What does it mean to me?  How can I apply this truth?”  Then meditate on it, day and night.  It will grow you up!
